10k is coming !!!

Today we had the 500m on the schedule. I had an equipment malfunction but still came close to my PB from last week. I will use the frustration from this race tomorrow in my 10k. The goal in the 10k is to skate under 13.40min which is 13s faster than my current PB. Wannes took some time of his PB from last week. His race wasn’t flawless going in the last corner so fast he didn’t know what to do so he stopped skating for a while :-D .

My race will be around 20 h European times. Wannes his race will be around 23h.

Belgium has a teampursuit team !!!

Didn’t go the way I wanted started off good but couldn’t hold it until the end… It happens… next shot in two days!! Tomorrow I’m doing a 500m, goal is the beat the PB from last week!!!
On a positive note: Wannes did what he came here to do!!! It was close at the end but with a good final lap he managed to stay under 6.48.00. So that means that Belgium will have 3 skaters in the men division at the world cups next season and we can start in the team pursuit!!!

test race report

Finished the test races today with 2 pb’s. I took 0.6s of my 500m and 2.7s of my 1500m. All in all I can’t say I’m unhappy with my results but a lot didn’t go the way I wanted it to go. But I guess that’s why they call it a test race! Now we have a day off and on Wednesday we start the 4day racing!!

World Cup in Hamar, Norway

Tomorrow the racing starts here in Hamar, Norway. In my 5k race I will try to skate the qualifying time needed to skate the 10k at the next world cup. If I don’t my individual world cup adventure will be over for this season. The ice here in Hamar is getting faster every day, so we will see what happens. On Sunday I will try and skate a 1500m out of competition. I will post a race report after the race!

Belgium all-round championship

I am officially qualified to go to the European all-round championship in Budapest. With only 2 start positions at the Europeans, I had to make sure I came in top 2 at the Belgium all-round championship. It all came down to the last race. Going in the 5k, I was still in third place overall and had to close a gap of 7s on the number 2 Wannes Van Praet. I skated a good 5k with a steady pace and accelerated towards the end and ended with enough difference to take the 2nd place overall. The podium this weekend was 1st Bart Swings 2nd Ferre Spruyt 3rd Wannes Van Praet. In the women division Nele Armée won every distance, so she will be joining Bart and me in Budapest.
